The University of North Dakota is a nationally prominent, student-focused doctoral institution. The University of North Dakota is located in Grand Forks, a classic “college town” of 55,000. The state’s third-largest city, Grand Forks is 70 miles north of Fargo, 150 miles south of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and 300 miles to the northwest of Minneapolis.

The Graduate School is responsible for all graduate programs at UND, including all master's and doctoral programs, certificates and a specialist program. Fields of study include the humanities, social sciences, physical and natural sciences, fine arts, business, education and human development, aerospace sciences, engineering, medical sciences, and nursing. UND enrolls approximately 14,000 students of which approximately 2, 500 are graduate students. The University of North Dakota is committed to increasing its graduate program offerings and its research base in accordance with its strategic plan.

The Graduate School at UND offers more than 120 graduate degree and certificate programs. You will find graduate programs in:

UND Research

The University of North Dakota has established an international reputation for research and scholarship, notably in the health sciences, nutrition, energy and environmental protection, aerospace, and engineering. Since 2001, the University has received $890.6 million for sponsored programs from internal and external sources. In fiscal year 2010, $143.37 million was received for projects in such areas as neuroscience, Unmanned Aerial Systems, vaccines, advanced electronics, nanotechnology, high-tech coatings, and alternative fuels.

The University is an anchor of the Red River Valley Research Corridor. It operates a 55-acre Technology Park to host both emerging enterprises and established centers and units, and to facilitate the transfer of University research advances to applications in business and industry. Prominent facilities in this endeavor include the Ina Mae Rude Entrepreneur Center, the Norman Skalicky Technology Incubator, and REAC 1.

Accreditation

UND is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. UND also holds many special accreditations at the college, department, or program level.

Tuition and Fees

The University of North Dakota provides quality, affordable education. Even for out-of-state students, the cost of attending UND is below the national median for similar institutions.

Funding

The Graduate School has a variety of scholarships, fellowships, and funding opportunities available to students who meet the requirements. Graduate Teaching, Research and Service Assistantships are also available to qualifying students.

Cultural Diversity Tuition Waivers are available to new graduate students who are American citizens and are historically underrepresented, including African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans, or Hispanic Americans. Economically disadvantaged students are also eligible to apply.
