Leysin American School in Switzerland

The Leysin American School in Switzerland

As an international university preparatory high school committed to excellence, Leysin American School in Switzerland (LAS) educates students aged 14-19 to respect people of other cultures and be responsible, productive and ethical citizens of the world with the skills to think creatively, reason critically and communicate effectively. Students work within a supportive, family-like environment from grades 9-12 with a 13th year and Post Graduate option.

The school, one of the top private schools in Switzerland, is located in Leysin, an Alpine resort above Lake Geneva. About 90 minutes from the Geneva International Airport, Leysin is easily accessible by car or train. The magnificent beauty, the safety, serenity and healthy environment of Leysin are enhanced by the cultural wealth of Europe and unlimited opportunities for outdoor and cultural enjoyment.

LAS provides a challenging college preparatory program within a supportive and flexible framework. The school was the first Swiss boarding school to introduce the International Baccalaureate Diploma program while providing the American Advanced Placement program. Virtually all LAS students continue their studies in excellent universities in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

For years, Leysin American School has also been known for its innovative Long-Distance Parenting concept, where parents work hand in hand with school administrators and teachers to help students reach their potential. LAS is the first school outside of the United States to provide Internet based web access to parents interested in communicating directly with teachers, administrators, and their student. These systems provide hourly information, attendance records, financial information, and complete grade access for each individual student and his or her parent.

LAS maintains an overall ratio of 1 teacher for every six students and our average class size is 12. All classrooms are online and LAS provides a state of the art wireless internet access system for all students with laptops. Most of our faculty come from North America and 40% have a Masters or higher. With an international student body of 350 representing over 50 nationalities this prestigious school is the ideal place for motivated students with an open world view.
