Our Mission

The mission of the University of Massachusetts School of Public Health and Health Sciences is to further knowledge that promotes health and prevents disease and disability through research, education, and community practice. The educational goal of the school is to prepare individuals for professional and academic public health and health science careers with special emphasis on regional and national needs. We strive for excellence in our educational programs by enrolling well-qualified students and providing a high-quality learning environment. The research goal of the school is to increase knowledge by conducting basic and applied research related to the promotion of health and prevention of disease. The public health practice goal of the school is to foster and maintain faculty and student involvement in local communities, public agencies, and private sector health-related activities. Faculty, staff and students are committed to the pursuit of knowledge through life-long learning and the maintenance of the highest professional standards. Faculty members maintain high performance levels in teaching, scholarship, and research related to public health and health sciences methods and practice. These activities are designed to promote health for all within a diverse society.

 

Degree Programs

The School of Public Health and Health Sciences (Amherst Campus) offers the Master of Public Health degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Education, Health Policy and Management, Nutrition, and Environmental Health Sciences. The School also offers Master of Science and Doctoral degrees in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Education, Health Policy and Management, Nutrition, Environmental Health Sciences, and Exercise Science.  Communication Disorders offers Master of Arts and Doctoral degrees. Undergraduate degrees are offered in Nutrition, Communication Disorders, and Exercise Science. The Master of Public Health degree can also be obtained through courses offered at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine in Worcester, Massachusetts. The School of Public Health and Health Sciences also offers a Master's Degree in Public Health in Public Health Practice and an MS(Nursing)/MPH Dual Degree Program through web based on-line learning.
