Ad Boxes and Splash pages

Ad Boxes:

Each advertiser in any given section is given an information box. The information boxes are located on the right hand side of the channel directories. This information box has 4 possible variations:

  1. The information box with logo and 4 or 5 lines of text with title above which links to a splash page. (below)
  2. The information box with logo and 4 or 5 lines of text with title above which links to an external site in a new window. (below)

Splash Pages:

  • The Splash page to fit into a table of width not exceeding 580 pixels (including any borders).
  • Images to be in GIF format, JPEG format, or Gif animation with resolution of 72 pixels per inch.
  • Logos should be formatted in GIF with the colors reduced to a minimum with a resolution of 72 pixels per inch.
  • Text to be in a standard internet font (Arial, Verdana or Times). If other fonts are required, these must be formatted made into a gif file.
  • Some formatting changes may have to be made to your page to allow reasonable download times but every effort will be made to retain the page in its original form.
  • Please state the heading for which your page is to be placed. Existing choices of headings can be found on the Newsweek Showcase Home page and Directories.
  • Linking URL and Email address (if required) to be supplied in full and will open in a new window.
  • Pages containing Flash, Java, Java script or other languages which require additional formatting to allow import to the site will be charged on an hourly basis in addition to the standard price.
  • Care must be taken so that any style sheet styles do not clash with the site style sheet. This can be avoided by naming any styles with ".advert-X" before your style in every instance (where the X is the style that you wish to use).
  • All self prepared documents submitted to be uploaded to our site must be passed as "HTML 4.01 Transitional". Web files submitted, uploaded and found not to be "HTML 4.01 Transitional" will be rejected until validated.

If you are not familiar with web code and wish the web team to make up your advert for you, you can send your layout/ideas in the following formats:

  • PDF at high resolution and with text in editable state and the file unlocked.
  • MS Word document. However we recommend that you attach as a separate file any images at a high resolution and allow us to optimize the images here.
  • TXT file (Windows)
  • Simple text file (Apple)

There is normally no extra cost for this service for adverts running on the website for more than 4 months. Contact our sales team for further information.

Requirements for Banner ads:

  • GIF format, JPEG format and animated GIF format with a maximum file size of 12 Kb but preferably around 5 Kb. We can also accept SWF files but you will also have to supply the raw FLA file saved in Flash MX 2004 or earlier so that we can embed additional linking information for statistics use.
  • Banner sizes for the head of the page will be at maximum, 468 pixels X 60 pixels (Full Banner) or 234 pixels X 60 pixels (Half Banner) at a resolution of 72 pixels per inch.
  • Linking URL and ID code (if required) to be supplied in full and will open a new window from this site.
