Strong leadership is vital to the success of any international business, industry or institution and Smurfit School is positioned among the top business schools in Europe, graduating 1,000 potential business leaders each year.

In October 2002 Smurfit School, UCD became one of only nine schools worldwide to have been awarded the three major international business school accreditations:

  • AACSB Accreditation from the US-based AACSB International
  • EQUIS accreditation from the Brussels-based EFMD
  • AMBA Accreditation (The Association of MBAs).

Smurfit School of Business has a vision of business research and education as a blend of both theoretical excellence and international business experience. This vision is realised by virtue of our alliances with international companies and a requirement that all of our MBA students must have significant business experience.

Faculty are the heart of a business school. With a compliment of over 80 full-time faculty, Smurfit School is an authoritative voice on all matters relating to global business. Pursuing a qualification at Smurfit School is about becoming part of a community. Our lecturers and students are on first name terms; our full-time MBA programme caters for partners of students as well as the students themselves; our alumni, lecturers, corporate partners and both Advisory Boards form a vibrant link between the school and business.

The portfolio of programmes available at Smurfit School consists of:

  • Master of Business Administration programmes
  • Specialist Masters programmes in all key areas
  • Research programmes Executive Education programmes
  • Graduate Diploma programmes

The Hatchery, an incubator unit for new businesses, is one manifestation of the School’s commitment to linking theory and practice. Using private venture capital and mentoring by successful entrepreneurs, recent graduates of the School are given opportunities to start new business ventures where the chances of success are maximised.

An international perspective is fundamental to our success. Smurfit School maintains relationships with colleges around the world, with international business school networks and associations and with the often multinational corporate organisations that employ our graduates. In addition we join in student exchange programmes backed by the SOCRATES/ERASMUS funds, while members of the faculty take part in overseas educational initiatives in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Spain. This year, over 50% of our full-time MBA class will be international while many of the remainder are Irish professionals with international experience.

Located on a stand-alone campus in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, facilities at Smurfit School are amongst the best in Europe. Recent enhancements include technologically enhanced classrooms and wireless facilities.

“Smurfit School has put in place a strategy to keep the School at the forefront in this emerging arena of technology-supported business education. A major gift from Denis O’Brien, a member of the Smurfit School board and founder of Esat Telecom, has helped deliver a state-of-the-art technology infrastructure demanded as part of this strategy. As a result, Smurfit School offers students enhanced teaching, research and learning opportunities through over 800 network connection points and wireless connectivity in classrooms, study area and social areas.”
